ABOUT EMILY
17-year-old
Emily Travis of downstate Belknap was crowned Miss Illinois’
Outstanding Teen 2008 on June 21, 2008 at the Norris Cultural
Arts Center in St. Charles.
Emily
will now prepare to compete for the title of Miss America’s
Outstanding Teen at the 2008 Miss America’s Outstanding Teen
Pageant, August 12-16 at the Linda Chapin Theater in Orlando,
Florida.
Entering
her senior
year at Massac County High School in Metropolis, Emily also takes college prep classes at Shawnee Community College in
Ullin.
Her
success story is very unique in that not only is Emily an
adopted child with native American roots but she also suffered
from Fetal Alcohol Syndrome at birth.
A classically trained pianist, Emily garnered the overall Talent Award at the 2008 Miss Illinois Outstanding Teen Pageant for her stirring rendition of Solfigietto by CPE Bach. She is also an accomplished artist, dancer and singer as
well.
Emily’s
platform as Miss Illinois’ Outstanding Teen is “Families
Going Green Makes the World Go ‘Round” with which she
hopes to promote environmental awareness throughout Illinois
and encourage citizens of all ages to develop “green”
initiatives in their communities.
A
self-confessed “tree hugger”, Emily is passionate about
the environment, conservation and animals - as she loves to
ride horses on her family farm.
